Physio Wellness Centre
Runners require specialist care. Common problems facing runners can include anterior knee pain resulting in pain on ascending or descending inclines or hills, achilles and patella tendonitis, often the results of poor biomechanics, ITB friction, stress fractures and plantar fascitis which results in pain and stiffness on the sole of the foot.
Research recently completed by former Socceroos, Olympic Team and APA Sports Physiotherapist Peter Georgilopoulos looking at the relationship between low back stiffness and its effect on hamstring flexibility has demonstrated that mobilising (loosening) the joints of the lumbar spine results in significant improvement in hamstring flexibility when sustained for a 3 minute period compared to a similar group who did not show any significant change following sustained hamstring stretching for an equal amount of time.
Runners who report ongoing hamstring (or groin) tightness and the varied overuse injuries that can result , many of which are listed above, may well benefit from appropriate early physiotherapy intervention.
Physio Wellness Centre is open 7 days so that runners can "Enjoy life without Pain". Call us for an appointment on 07 5579 8066

Burleigh Pilates Studio
For a runner posture is a key ingredient for success and posture is very dependent on a strong core. Pilates develops a strong core by supporting and strengthening the muscles of the torso, hips shoulders and pelvis.
While running is great cardiovascular work, it can lead to imbalances in the body. Those imbalances can sideline runners and must be addressed in order to continue the activity in a healthy and beneficial way. Pilates is an excellent complement to any runner's routine as it can help strengthen muscles that are not used specifically for running.
Most runners exhibit great strength in their legs but have real issues with tightness in the hips, with low back or knee pain, and/or problems with balance. Weakness in the glutes can also contribute to injuries such as stress fractures & ITB tightness.
Pilates balances the body, front to back, side to side and along with increasing flexibility.

During the summer months we start as close to 6.30am as possible and in the winter 7.00am is the preferred start time.
You will be made most welcome from like minded people who enjoy physical activity followed by fresh fruits, coffee and toast etc.
